The Presidential Planner - Obama Visits the Pentagon

President Obama will make a rare visit to the Pentagon today to unveil the findings of the Defense Strategic Review and outline the strategy for the Department of Defense going forward.

The review, which the president ordered last spring, was intended to reassess the nation's defense priorities and will guide the Pentagon's budget decisions. With U.S. troops out of Iraq, the war in Afghanistan winding down, and China on the rise, the new strategy is expected to include reductions in military personnel as well as cuts to future weapons purchases.

Obama will be joined by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey in announcing the strategy in his second visit to the Pentagon as president.

Later this afternoon, the president will meet privately at the White House with Vice President Joe Biden and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.
