Artist of Iconic Obama Campaign Image Pleads Guilty in Criminal Court

United States District Court, Southern District of New York

Shepard Fairey, the artist who created the iconic image of President Obama in 2008, pleaded guilty today in federal court in Manhattan to a count of criminal contempt.

He admitted to destroying documents, manufacturing evidence and other misconduct related to a lawsuit against the Associated Press, which owns the image in question.

Court records say the image generated 3 million dollars for Fairey. He faces a maximum of six months in prison.
