Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-GA., hosted a private dinner for presidential hopeful Herman Cain and multiple other Republican Senators last night in Washington, D.C.

Asked about the dinner in the halls of the Capitol today, Chambliss refused to speak specifically about the allegations against Cain of sexual harassment, nor the way in which Cain’s explanation of the two charges seems to be evolving with each day.

“I’m not going to get into any of that discussion about this issue because I don’t know anything about it,” Chambliss said. “And every politician would have handled the same situation probably in their own different way. But I just, I’m not going to get into the way he handled it.”

Stopping just short of an endorsement, Chambliss said that he’s known Cain for 15 years and would be comfortable with him in the Oval Office.

“He’s got a good head on him; he’s got a good business sense about him. He’s a good man. I know his family. He’s a well educated man; he’s been out in the world. He signed the front of a paycheck over and over and over again. I think he brings a lot of assets that would make people feel comfortable with him.”

Herman Cain will meet with another Republican Senate heavyweight today. Late this afternoon sources confirm he’ll have a private meeting with Sen. Jim DeMint, R-SC. DeMint met with Perry last week in South Carolina and has met with many other candidates throughout the year.
