The pro-Romney superPAC known as "Restore our Future" has released a new ad today that is nearly identical to one aired by the Romney campaign itself in 2007.

The Restore our Future ad, which will air in both Michigan and Arizona, is titled "Saved," and tells the story of Romney helping his business partner, Robert Gay, find his 14-year-old daughter who went missing in New York City in 1996.

But the superPAC, which cannot legally coordinate with the Romney campaign, borrows much of the material from the original campaign ad that aired in 2007 and was titled "The Search."

Both ads feature and interview with Robert Gay, whose daughter Melissa went missing after leaving the family's Connecticut home to attend a rave in New York City, according to a New York Times account at the time.

"The man who helped save my daughter was Mitt Romney," Gay says in the ads. "Mitt's done a lot of things that people say are nearly impossible, but for me, the most important thing he's ever done is to help save my daughter."

Melissa Gay was found six days later safe at a home in New Jersey, but not before Bain Capitol was shut down and several executives - including Romney - flew from Boston to New York to aide in the search.

The Restore our Future version of the ad features updated photographs of Romney and replaces Romney's own "I'm Mitt Romney and I approve this message" sign off with one from the organization.

Neither Restore our Future or the Romney campaign immediately responded to a request for a comment on the similarity of the ads.
