Kids Battling Cancer Board Flight to the North Pole

— -- Forty kids in the Atlanta area were sent on a magical journey to the "North Pole" earlier this month.

On Dec. 10, the children, who are all patients at the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, were driven in a limo to the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to pick up their tickets.

Flight attendants, dressed as singing and dancing elves, greeted them at the Delta terminal.

During the 45-minute journey, the children sang Christmas carols and snacked on goodies. When they arrived at the North Pole terminal, Santa and Mrs. Claus were waiting for them.

One mom wanted to share her gratitude to Delta. She told ABC News, “[Delta] brought him so much excitement and happiness with a special limo ride, a magical airplane ride, and of course the chance to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus,” Jessica Brandon said. “For one day kids forgot about needles, chemo, hospitals and anything related to cancer. Instead, they were surrounded by elves and everything magical.”

Tad Hutcheson, managing director of community affairs at Delta, told ABC News: "Delta has been creating these special holiday experiences for children for the past 35 years. Children battling cancer and blood disorders fight so hard all year, so it feels incredibly worthwhile for our company to create a day filled with magic to take their minds off their circumstances. Our employees look forward to these events every year. It is our pleasure to be a part of something so special.”
