What You Should Know About The New 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' Script
"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts One and Two" hits bookshelves tonight.
— -- Harry Potter is all grown up and fans can finally catch up with him as an adult wizard in the latest story about J.K. Rowling's world of magic and muggles.
This time it comes in the form of a stage play, called "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts One and Two," which opened today at London's Palace Theatre.
Luckily for fans who aren't in the U.K., the play's script has been adapted into a new book.
In "The Cursed Child," which picks up 19 years after the battle at Hogwarts, fans are introduced to a 30-something Harry Potter. He now has three kids and is having a hard time with his job at the Ministry of Magic.
Although other plot details have remained an ironclad secret, here are a few things to know before picking up the script:
1. J.K. Rowling didn't write the entire story. Although the esteemed author helped develop the idea, the book was actually penned by playwright Jack Thorne. Director John Tiffany also gets credit for the book adaptation of the stage play.
2. It's not necessarily a sequel. 'The Cursed Child' is not technically the eighth book in the bestselling book series. It could more accurately be referred to as another story in the 'Harry Potter' universe. This shouldn't come as a surprise to some Potterheads as Rowling has long said she's not writing any more novels for the series.
3. There are only 4.5 million copies of the hardcover book being printed in North America. That's according to Publisher's Weekly.
4. The script is 320 pages long. So don't expect a quick read. Still, fans don't want any spoilers leaked. Rowling herself took to Twitter, using the hashtag #KeeptheSecrets to ... literally, you know, encourage readers to keep the secrets.
5. The story hits bookshelves at midnight tonight. Many fans are throwing parties in its honor.
