Two Allegedly Drunk Pilots Arrested Prior to Trans-Atlantic Flight
Police Scotland confirmed the two men are due in court today.
— -- Both pilots assigned to fly an Air Transat flight from Scotland to Toronto on Monday were arrested for allegedly being drunk.
The Airbus A310, scheduled to have 243 passengers on board, was due to depart Glasgow on Monday afternoon. The two pilots, Jean-Francois Perreault, 39, and Imran Zafar Syed, 37, were arrested under the Railway and Transport Safety Act 2003, according to the airline, Police Scotland, the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.
The pair appeared in Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday and will be "committed for further examination and remanded in custody," according to court records.
Their next appearance in court will be within 8 days.
The Canada-based airline confirmed the arrest of the two pilots.
Pierre Tessier, a spokesperson for Air Transat, said "We will await the results of the investigation and judicial proceedings before commenting on the matter before making any further comments. The safety of our crews and passengers is, and will remain, a top priority at Air Transat."
Two pilots and seven flight attendants were scheduled to work the trans-Atlantic flight, according to Tessier.
