Watch Cameron Sterling Ask Obama to 'Unite All the Races' in 360-Degree Virtual Reality
Edward Flynn brought up a myriad of issues he comes across in police work.
— -- The son of the Baton Rouge man who died at the hands of police last week spoke to President Barack Obama in a town hall discussion moderated by David Muir Thursday night, asking him to "unite all the races of the world."
Cameron Sterling called for peace and implored Obama to bring the nation together.
"I've come to ask one question," Cameron said. "I ask that you keep all of these families and my family safe and the people and the rest of the good police officers safe from bad people and bad police officers. And I ask for your help to unite all the races of this world."
Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn was one of the last people to speak to Obama during a town hall.
While addressing the president, Flynn brought up a myriad of issues he comes across in police work, such the difficult task of policing in urban, disadvantaged communities, race relations and distrust of police.
"And so the challenge is, how do we talk about both things at the same time without acting like we’re blaming the African-American community for their victimization or that we’re assuming that all police are racially biased?" Flynn asked the president.
Obama spoke as part of a Disney Media Networks town hall titled "The President and the People: A National Conversation," which aired Thursday at 8 p.m. ET and was simulcast commercial-free on ABC, ESPN, Freeform, ABCNews.com, Freeform Digital, Watch ABC, Watch ESPN, Yahoo, ABC News’ Facebook page and YouTube channel as well as ABC Radio and ESPN Radio.
