— -- Lady Gaga will be performing a special tribute to the late David Bowie during the 2016 Grammy Awards later this month.

The news was announced on Tuesday via the Grammy's official Twitter account.

Longtime Grammy Awards producer Ken Ehrlich told the New York Times that the "Born This Way" singer was already booked to perform at the Grammy's before Bowie died, and explained his decision to tap Lady Gaga for the Bowie tribute.

Elrich revealed that he was contacted by a number of musicians who wanted to participate in the tribute, noting that, "some of whom might have made sense; the vast majority didn’t."

The producer ultimately decided to have Lady Gaga perform the tribute solo.

According to Elrich, the David Bowie tribute will last approximately six or seven minutes, and Lady Gaga will cover “at least three or four” of Bowie's hits.

"[Lady Gaga's tribute] is going to be a true homage to who David was, particularly musically, but not ignoring his influence on fashion and pop culture in a broader way,” Elrich said.

The Grammy Awards, which will be hosted by rapper LL Cool J, will feature additional performances from Adele, Tori Kelly, James Bay, Ellie Goulding, The Weeknd and more.

The Grammy Awards will air on Monday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
