"World News" Posts Largest Victory Over "Nightly News" in Adults 25-54 in Over Five Years

"World News" Grows the Most in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 Compared to Last Week

"World News" Beats "Nightly News" Head to Head in Demo on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday

ABC News Broadcast Delivers Smallest Gap with NBC in Total Viewers in Over Five Months

" ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" stood as the No. 1 evening newscast for the 2nd straight week among Adults 25-54 for the week of April 14, 2014, according to Nielsen Media Research. "World News" scored its first back-to-back news demo win in over 6 years - since weeks of 3/17/08 and 3/24/08. In addition, "World News" (2.093 million) widened its Adults 25-54 lead over "Nightly News" (2.008 million) from the previous week's lead (85,000 vs. 12,000) to post its largest margin of victory over the NBC program in more than 5 1/2 years - since w/o 7/28/08.

"World News" out delivered "NBC Nightly News" in Adults 25-54 in 3 of the 5 head-to-head airings: Monday (+53,000 - 2.315 million vs. 2.262 million), Wednesday (+124,000 - 2.136 million vs. 2.012 million) and Thursday (+270,000 - 2.077 million vs. 1.807 million). For the 2nd consecutive week, "World News" owned the week's No. 1 Adults 25-54 telecast with its Monday airing. Further, "World News'" head-to-head victory on Thursday saw its largest single-day advantage over a "Nightly News" telecast in more than 5 years - since 11/18/08, based on regular telecasts.

"World News" improved over the previous week in Total Viewers (+7%), Adults 25-54 (+11%) and Adults 18-49 (+11%) - 7.378 million, 1.882 million and 1.268 million, respectively, for w/o 4/7/14. In fact, "World News" was up the most in both measures compared to "CBS Evening News" (-1%/flat/flat) and "NBC Nightly News" (+5%/+7%/+7%).

For the 3rd consecutive week, "World News" cut its Total Viewer margins with "NBC Nightly News" both week to week (-19% - 647,000 vs. 797,000) and year to year (-52% - 647,000 vs. 1.346 million). "World News" saw its closest overall viewer performance with "Nightly News" in over 5 months (since w/o 10/21/13) and 2nd smallest gap this season.

Season to date, "World News" is up versus the same point last season in both Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 25-54 (+4%), delivering its most-watched season in 5 years and best news demo number in 3 years - since the 2008-09 and the 2010-11 seasons, respectively. "World News" also stands as the only evening newscast to improve its demo performance from the previous season compared to "CBS Evening News" (-6%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-2%).

In addition, "World News" is narrowing its season margin with "NBC Nightly News" in Adults 25-54 by double digits (-33% - 221,000 vs. 332,000) compared to its season margin from the same point last year. In fact, cutting its Adults 25-54 gap for the 4th consecutive season, "World News" is seeing its closest news demo performance with the NBC program in 6 years - since the 2007-08 season.

"World News" has nearly doubled its Adults 25-54 lead over "CBS Evening News" versus its year-ago season lead (+99% - 368,000 vs. 185,000).

For the week, "ABC World News" beat the "CBS Evening News" by 1.650 million Total Viewers and by 595,000 Adults 25-54 to lead the CBS program by its largest news demo advantage in nearly 3 1/2 years - since w/o 12/27/10.
