— -- Jeb Bush revealed earlier this year the secret behind pictures showing his significant weight loss as he launched his bid for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination.

Bush had moved to the Paleo diet, which is "based upon everyday, modern foods that mimic the food groups of our pre-agricultural, hunter-gatherer ancestors," according to the diet's official website.

However, in a tour of Bush's campaign bus with ABC News' Jonathan Karl, Bush revealed that even a candidate for the nation's highest office can get away with cheating every once in a while.

Bush showed Karl a package of turkey jerky, saying it was what he ate for "breakfast, lunch and dinner," but then pulled out a package of peanut M&Ms.

"This, on the other hand, is how we cheat at night," Bush said.

M&Ms, even with peanuts, would certainly violate the Paleo diet's restrictions against processed foods, but it's hardly the first time we've seen Bush blur the lines of his diet regimen.

In a tour of the Iowa state festival this summer, Bush was observed snacking on several of the deep-fried delicacies available to visitors.
