G-7 Photo Op Makes Clear that Russia Is Not Welcome
If a picture says a thousand words, the message from this image of members of the G-7 meeting together is directed squarely at President Vladimir Putin: no Russians allowed.
With their national flags prominently on display, the remaining members of the G-7 group of industrialized countries (plus two delegates from the EU) met today on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague, the Netherlands, to discuss ways to further punish Russia for its take over of the Ukrainian region of Crimea.
One way to isolate Putin further, all the members believe, is to disinvite Russia from the meetings.
"[We] see no reason to meet with the Russians in the context of the G-8 given their current actions," State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said in Washington.
