March 5, 2014— -- A search is underway for a 21-year-old Rice University student who went missing while on spring break in Panama City, Fla., police said today.

Reny Jose was last seen around 7 p.m. Monday after arriving in Panama City on Saturday. His friends contacted the Bay County Sheriff's office Tuesday morning to report him missing from the beachfront home they were renting, authorities said.

"We do not suspect foul play," Bay County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Corley Ruth told ABC News today.

Jose's clothing and personal items, including his cell phone, were discovered in a garbage can close to the home, police said, noting the clothes that were discovered were the same clothes he was wearing when he was last seen.

Jose's friends "saw him wearing those clothes at 7 o'clock the night before," Ruth said.

A sheriff's office air unit and several deputies have been searching the area around the rental home as well as nearby beaches in an effort to locate Jose.

According to Rice University, Jose is a mechanical engineering major and a member of Martel College.

Officials are asking anyone with information regarding Jose to call the Bay County Sheriff's office at (850) 747-4700.
