— -- It was a super Tuesday to be Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

The two front-runners for their respective parties' presidential nomination -- the real estate mogul and the former secretary of state -- both came out on top after a pivotal day of state primary and caucus contests across the country.

Clinton and Trump dominated the political playing field, each with seven state Super Tuesday wins.

Trump’s two biggest GOP competitors -- Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio -- each scored wins of their own, but fell short of threatening his front-runner status. Cruz, who went into Tuesday as the only Republican hopeful who had beaten Trump, in the Iowa caucuses, managed to pull out primary wins in Oklahoma and Texas, his home state, and the Alaska caucuses. Rubio prevailed in Minnesota.

As for Clinton’s lone opponent, Bernie Sanders, the Vermont senator managed victories in his home state and Oklahoma primaries and the caucuses in Colorado and Minnesota. But Clinton clinched competitive delegate wins that put her on a much clearer path to eventually land the Democratic nomination.
