— -- Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Hillary Clinton’s apologizing for her use of a private email server is insufficient for her to wipe the slate clean with voters, suggesting she may have to drop out of the race.

“She broke the law. If you shoot somebody, you can’t just say you are sorry,” the New York real estate mogul told ABC News today just before addressing a crowd of anti-Iran deal and Tea Party activists on Capitol Hill.

Trump was referring to Clinton’s comments on “ABC World News Tonight,” in which she made the most contrite comments yet about sending emails exclusively from a private Internet server set up in her home while she served as secretary of state.

“That was a mistake. I'm sorry about that. I take responsibility. And I'm trying to be as transparent as I possibly can,” Clinton said after a week of interviews in which she declined to apologize.

The FBI is looking into the extent to which Clinton shared classified information in emails from her private address, which were sent from an unsecured server. Several House and Senate committees are also looking into her email use and that of her aides.

The Clinton camp has maintained that none of her emails were marked classified at the time they were sent.
